Ehow Discontinued Writers Compensation Program
This post will discuss my overall experience with Ehow. Overall Ehow has deleted over 75 of my Ehow articles, today I received an email with a long list of more deletions. In a previous post I discussed that I would cut back on my content contributions due to frequent unexplained article deletions. Especially my top earning articles that were deleted for no real reason.
I received this email today
Today, we are announcing that Demand Studios is now the exclusive platform for writing new articles for eHow.com. This change will not impact any of your existing articles or payments currently affiliated with the Writer Compensation Program (WCP). We would like to invite you to apply to become a Demand Studios writer. We are committed to providing a quality experience, and Demand Studios gives eHow.com’s writers a more robust publishing platform including copy editors, quality assurance and a number of great, new resources for the writer community. We look forward to hearing from you.
How does this impact you?
Demand Studios has a rigorous writer admission process to ensure quality. Some writers were pre-approved because of their track record with us. Quality is paramount, and our criteria for accepting eHow.com writers into Demand Studios were based on writer activity level and moderation history . By the end of March 2010, you should have published five or more articles, of which at least 80 percent were accepted. Also, you must have been a member of the WCP. Having written 303 articles with a 71% acceptance rate, you did not qualify. However, we want to learn more about you, which is why we would like to ask you to apply to Demand Studios. Your application will allow us to see more of your work and to comprehensively review your writing.
What are the benefits?
Demand Studios now offers the benefits you are accustomed to on eHow.com, with added flexibility. You can suggest your own titles and write articles that pay monthly on a residual basis. In addition you can select assignments that pay upfront. The combination of these options gives you the opportunity to make more money. You choose what articles you write and how you get paid.
Next Steps:
• Please complete any new articles that you are drafting on eHow.com within the next seven days. You will not be able to publish via eHow.com’s publishing tools after 12:00 AM (PDT) on April 13, 2010.
Okay… so writing 303 articles is not good enough to be preapproved to write for Ehow, and hired up with Demand Studios. There is a big button after that last sentence in the email that directs me to try my chances and apply mannualy for the chance to work with Ehow again through Demand Studios.
*So….. in the world of internet employment, sites go down.
Earlier this year Life123 unexpectedly closed its doors to writers earning $20 per article, with no residuals.
This is a learning experience for me. There were many warning signs that Ehow was having problems with their contributors. That is why I slowed down my contributions. I have been writing for Ehow since the summer of 2008, that is almost 2 years of effort.
I did enjoy the community forum that surprisingly is not accesible tonight after reading that email.
Residual income is great, especially when you own the content. Since I own the content from my ehow articles I can repurpose the content and use it on other projects.
Always keep your options open. Save all work when writing for online websites. Having more than one egg or source of income online is important.
How do you feel about ehow’s change to the Demand Studios platform? Were you automatically accepted? I am sure that many writers out there will apply and cross their fingers to work for Demand Studios.
I’d love to hear your comments, concerns, and ramblings about the recent changes at Ehow. I am sure there are a lot of pisssed off, confused, or dissapointed contributors that have strong feelings and opinions about this. The only people online who seem overjoyed are people already writing for demand studios and those who were preapproved.
Feel free to comment.
