Real life example -

Anna is a young mother with three children under ten. Her husband works full time as a salaried employee, however they are having a hard time making ends meet. Her husband is pressuring her to just get a job. Working will place two of the small children in daycare, and require after school care for the oldest child. This costs $165 dollars a week during the school year and $225 during the summer.

Anna has some college credits, but has not earned her degree. Entry level jobs in her area pay $ 8 an hour. Working full time after childcare expenses, Anna earns  $155 a week during the school year.

Ann feels that she needs the money and works 40 hours  week and spends an additional 5 hours a week commuting to work and the daycare. Anna is earning about $620 a month. This is just a rough estimate. This does not take into account for taxes, gas, work clothes, make up, lunches, or extra dinners eaten out due to being tired.

This scenario is very common among young families. Working at home with an employer or starting a home business can help you beat federal minimum wage.
